What is a follow-on public offering, or FPO?

A follow-on public offering (FPO) is when a publicly traded firm that is already listed on an exchange issues shares to investors.

An FPO is a stock issue of extra shares by a firm that has already gone through the IPO process and is publicly traded. FPOs are a common way for firms to generate additional equity capital through a stock issue in the capital markets.

The application process is comparable to that of initial public offerings (IPOs).
